Day 1 of the Microsoft MS101 Partner Conference

I must've starved for over 24 hours? With all the time differences, I couldn't keep track how long ago it was when I last ate. United's food is pretty bad anyway. Most people who know me know that I can pretty much eat garbage. Even I didn't eat very much on the plane.

So the day started at 11:30am. We were taken to the Microsoft campus in Redmond by a coach. After we got there, we picked our lunch box and started eating and setting up our own little work station. Out of all the lunch boxes, I picked some spicy prawn noodle salad. It was more salty than spicy. There was hardly any vegetables. I again ate very little of it and continued with my starvation. I'll definitely have a deli sandwich tomorrow instead.

The guy started talking... He talked fast... And he went through the slides pretty quickly. I think most of the people couldn't pick up everything he said. Oh well, it was only an overview anyway. Jet lag started to kick in at around 1pm. I think that was 4am in Hong Kong. I'm glad there was a tea break. I can see why North Americans are big now. =) There were different cheeses, crackers, nuts, fruits, and cookies for the tea break. There was also an unlimited supply for drinks of all sorts in the fridge.

We had a short day today... We got back to the hotel at 6pm. Then there was a wine pairing event for some networking. Man, still no real food for me. I met a few friendly people today. One guy works for Citrix and is married to a Chinese lady. Another guy works for Cisco and invited me to some music show but I declined cuz I wanted some rest (not that I'm really resting now :P). Yet another guy works for Brocade. He actually knows who Egenera is. He used to do the porting of Solaris x86 to Egenera when he worked at Sun. I guess these networking sessions could be pretty interesting too. BTW, I felt like such a minority. I'm one of only two Asians among 50-60 people, and the other Asian is a Malaysian working in San Jose, the Brocade guy I just mentioned.

I took a walk around the hotel after wine pairing. I felt pretty safe and there were still people on the streets. The weather was great. It was cool and dry. It was maybe around 20C. I was initially a bit chilly, but after a while I got used to it and I felt just fine. I could see the moon bright and big. It must be around the lunar 15th today. Unfortunately, the total lunar eclipse takes place at 2am tonight or I would've been able to see it clearly. It's almost 12:30am now... But I don't think I'll go outside anymore. =)

I'm thinking of going to the gym at 5am or so tomorrow morning before the day starts at 7:30am... What do you think??
