I felt like reading my book during lunch today. So I bought my lunch at a convenience store (which is just a Chinese bun cuz the salad I wanted to get was already out) and took it to the riverside to enjoy the sunshine and the outdoors while reading. There was a kitty cat standing, also enjoying the weather, behind my bench, in front of the bushes. I meow'd her a bit and went on with my bun and book. All of a sudden, I caught sight of a German shepherd running towards me. Before I could react, it made an abrupt turn and ran behind me. Then I realized! It was going after the kitty cat! I turned around, and saw the cat on her guard sideways with all her fur standing on its tip. The dog kept running towards her, and the cat fled. I heard people yelling for the dog, followed by laughter. It was two joggers, apparently the owners of the dog. They were trying to get the dog to come back, but to no avail. Then one of the joggers laughed, "Look! The cat's up on the tree!" I was relieved to hear that the cat escaped from the dog's pursuit. I turned around, and saw the cat high up on the tree. Agitation then hit me after moments of relief. I felt intensely irritated towards the irresponsibility of the owners of the dog. They just let their dog run wild and chase after other animals. They felt no guilt about their dog causing fear to other animals. They didn't even try hard to take back control of the dog.
The poor kitty just stayed up on the tree when I left. I was first worried that she wouldn't be able to come back on the ground, as cats are notorious for being able to climb up trees and not down. But when I saw her, even though she was still up on the branches, she was close enough to the ground I was sure she could just jump back down. I thus left, feeling happy for the cat, and pondering why cat and dog owners wouldn't get along.
