Asia's richest lady and the chairlady of the Chinachem Group 華懋集團, Nina Wang 龔如心, passed away on April 3, 2007. Nina Wang was a controversial lady. She was most notable on her appearance and her battle over her evaporated husband's fortune with her father-in-law. I didn't follow her news very closely, but her passing away reminds me once again of the fragility of life and the feebleness of materialism.
Wang lived to the age of 69, which is considerably lower than the life expectancy at birth for females of 82.4 in Hong Kong. She spent the last decade of her life fighting with her father-in-law over her husband's fortune. Some suspected that Nina Wang had planned the kidnapping of her husband. The court had declared that Nina Wang forged her husband Teddy Wang's will and Teddy Wang's fortune was to be passed to her father-in-law. Nina Wang appealed, and the ruling was overturned in 2005. All charges on Nina Wang were dropped. Teddy Wang's possessions were taken back from her father-in-law and passed back to Nina Wang. The case had only closed a bit over a year, and Nina Wang had already passed away. All her HK$ 30-billion couldn't buy her longevity. She didn't even have the time to enjoy her "victory". I wonder if she was even truly happy the past 10 years.
Live in the moment.
"Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is mystery.
Today is a gift.
That’s why it’s called the present!"
